Tasting Note: Could Finger Lakes syrah may be the next, break-out red for the region after cabernet franc?

This New York Finger Lakes syrah channels the Northern Rhône.

Medium-intensity ruby in color this wine has an aromatic nose of black currant, bramble, violet, red cherry and clove baking spice.

There are concentrated, earthy, syrah aromas similar to those from the Northern Rhône that boast of a certain primal essence.

On the palate the dry, medium-bodied red echoes flavors suggested on the nose but with less intensity.

The wine has a soft, plush body with midpalate complexity punctuated by black pepper hints.

There is balance between the fruit and medium acidity that ultimately completes with a medium-plus finish.

Delicious.

Bottle Note: One of two syrah blocks in the vineyards, North Block Nine provides perfect black clusters brimming with dark fruit, spice and earth. This vintage’s jammy black fruit and distinctive leather undertones will complement grilled meats and tomato-based dishes. Our eighty-acre farm winery is located on Seneca Lake’s south-eastern slope in the beautiful Finger Lakes. Committed to protecting the land and lake using sustainable business practices, we are passionate about creating wines expressive of our vineyard site.
