Concha Y Toro, Serie Riberas Gran Reserva Ribera del Cachapoal, DO Peumo, Carmenere 2016, Peumo, Chile

Tasting Note: A carmenere with reserve, subtlety and a multifaceted flavor profile.

Deep-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of black currant, dried-violet petal, hibiscus, black plum, bramble, black pepper and clove baking spice.

On the palate the dry, full-bodied carmenere is silky in texture with supple, ripe, medium-plus tannin and some notes of cedar.

Ripe, but-not-overripe, fruit flavors suggested on the nose continue to the palate but in a restrained and relaxed form reminiscent of the Old World.

There is midpalate concentration and complexity.

A fine, delicate carmenere that shows cool-weather influences.

Bottle Note: From cooler vineyards near riverbanks in Chile, Concha Y Toro carefully selects its grapes to make the highest quality wines with an emphasis on freshness: Serie Riberas, Gran Reserva. Planted on an Old Terrace on the northern riverbank and cooled by the Cachapoal River, the carmenere vines afford powerful and concentrated wines laden with ripe red fruit, violet and chocolate.
