Delheim, Vera Cruz Estate Shiraz 2013, Stellenbosch, South Africa

Tasting Note: A syrah that delivers impressive depth and smoothness.

Deep-intensity ruby in color, this wine has a nose of black currant, black cherry, cassis and vanilla.

On the palate the dry, full-bodied syrah delivers concentrated black fruit flavors with ripe, supple, medium-plus tannin.

There is balance between the fruit and tannin structure buttressed by mid-palate complexity and a medium-plus finish.

The wine spent 17 months in French oak barrels.

Bottle Note: The 2013 vintage is a selection of eight 500 liter puncheons vinified in open top fermenters. Fruit were selected from 21-year old bush vines on a cool south-western slope with deep decomposed granite soil. A reflection of terroir, cultivator and vintage. High on the slopes of the Simonsberg lies the beautiful Delheim, home of the Sperling clan. Their hospitality and 60 years of dedication to making wines of character makes Delheim “worth the journey.”
