Stellenrust, Peppergrinder’s Shiraz 2015, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Tasting Note: A basic syrah.
Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has a nose of blackberry, black currant, strawberry and violet.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied syrah has grippy, high tannin with lots of black fruit and black pepper.
While very shiraz-esque the wine lacks flavor intensity though it has concentration that is mostly tannin related.
Bottle Note: Situated in Stellenbosch, the heart of South Africa’s wine industry, lies the family cellar of Stellenrust. Here time honored traditions and select wines have led to the family motto: “where excellence meets winemaking.” This wine shows the intensity Shiraz can develop in the famous Golden Triangle area of South Africa. The nose shows dark peppery spice, some nutmeg and lifted violet notes. The flavors are carried forward to a rich palate white pepper, wild berries and plum with a velvety, lingering finish.
