Lucien Albrecht, Crémant D’Alsace Brut, Alsace, France
Tasting Note: Crémant from Alsace has always been an under-the-radar sparkling wine known well to and enjoyed regularly by the French themselves, and this bottle from Lucien Albrecht demonstrates why.
Pale-intensity lemon in color, this wine has a medium-intensity nose of fresh green apple, pear, starfruit, white-peach skin, blossom and lemon-citrus peel.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied crémant has medium-plus-intensity, orchard-fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by high acidity and completing with a citrusy, medium-plus finish.
The wine is steely in texture with an angular, precise acidity running throughout the length of taste.
I always look for crémant from Alsace on wine lists when I want a bubbly, and Lucien Albrecht is one of my go-to producers that never disappoints.
See earlier review from 2018.
Bottle Note: Lucien Albrecht was one of the founding fathers of the Appellation Crémant d’Alsace. Beautifully bright gold in color, this wine reveals a nose primarily floral with fine and persistent bubbles. With an elegant palate, it is a great classic for all festive occasions.
