Altos Las Hormigas, Colonia Las Liebres Bonarda Classica 2013, Mendoza, Argentina
Tasting Note: A concentrated, black fruit expression of this widely-planted grape from Argentina that is just now showing up on store shelves and that impresses with flavor intensity.
Deep-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of raspberry, kirsch, black currant, black plum and baked fig along with some faint vanilla spice.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied bonarda expresses somewhat concentrated black fruit flavors on the attack giving way to red fruit on the mid-palate through to a medium-long, black cherry finish.
The wine has a soft medium-plus intensity tannin structure that gives it structure while still being light.
A bonarda that reveals ripe, yet restrained, fruit that flirts with the Old World.
