Vergelegen Wine Estate’s “V Club” Brings South African Wine to the U.S.

Vergelegen Wine Estate's VClub Brings South African Wine to U.S.

I’ve been a big fan of South African wines since visiting South Africa in 2018.

This week I got the opportunity to try a line up of wines from Vergelegen Wine Estate located in Somerset West, South Africa.

Vergelegen Wines are now available in the U.S. via the winery’s U.S. wine club, dubbed “V Club.”

I sampled their Brut MMV 2019, Reserve Chardonnay 2019, GVB 2019 red blend as well as their V 2015 red blend.

Vergelegen’s sparkling brut was yeasty with welcome notes of brioche.

The chardonnay was lightly oaked and in balance with the fruit while the cabernet-sauvignon-led red blends were robust with perfume notes of cabernet franc showing well even at 5-10% of the blend.

The white wines paired beautifully with caviar and a fish spread, and the red wines paired well with sliders and steak.

Vergelegen Wines are definitely wines worth checking out if you adore South African wines or if you’re nearby in Westport, Connecticut area where the winery hosts tastings for its club members.
