Antonio Espinosa De Los Monteros, Palo Cortado, Andalucía, Spain
Tasting Note: A rich, flavorful palo cortado that hits all of the classic Sherry-style’s signature notes and excels on the yeasty notes that elevate the wine.
Light-to-medium-intensity amber in color, this wine has an aromatic, pronounced intensity nose of brioche, butter, toasted almond and walnut, bread dough, yogurt and vanilla baking spice.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied palo cortado has medium-plus-intensity rancio flavors suggested on the nose ultimately completing with a long, bread-doughy-finish.
The wine is creamy in texture with complexity running throughout the length of the taste.
An excellent bottle from an under-the-radar producer whose wine I got while visiting their bodega in Jerez.
Thanks to Danny Gil Romero for the tour of the bodega and adjoining guitar museum.
Bottle Note: Wine obtained from a selection of distinguished fine wines, aged by crianza oxidative. Bright mahogany color and powerful aroma that combines particular notes of amontillados and olorosos. On the palate, it is round and deep with a long persistence.
