Bloomer Creek Vineyard, Chardonnay 2012, Pétillant Naturel, Finger Lakes, New York
Tasting Note: This petillant (slightly sparkling) golden chardonnay has a nose of green apple, pear and green melon.
As is often characteristic of indigenous-fermented wines, this chardonnay has a strong, earthy, primal nose with aromas one often associates with Old World red wine.
On the palate the wine is medium-plus in acidity and body with chalkiness (almost like sweetheart candies) showing through to the to 70% point of the taste.
The sparkling bubbles sticking to the side of your glass provide the wine with added lift. This is not your run-of-the mill chardonnay.
It’s special and something that would excite an oenophile friend who normally steers away from chardonnay.
I think you’ll see your wine friends take a second take and lavish you with praise for bringing an indigenously-fermented chardonnay that presents the chardonnay grape in its most natural form from the much heralded (but still under the radar for some) New York Finger Lakes.
Bottle Note: Bloomer Creek was created by longtime grape grower Kim Engle and his wife, artist Debra Bermingham, over thirty years ago. This small, family run vineyard is a direct expression of their passion for the beauty of the Finger Lakes region and its potential to produce world class wine.
