Esterhazy, Zweigelt 2013, Austria
Tasting Note: Will you be the beneficiary of this under-this-radar red varietal that can’t be found in most wine shops across the U.S.?
Medium-intensity ruby in color this wine has an aromatic nose of violet, black plum and overripe raspberry with punctuations of blackberry and vanilla baking spice.
On the palate, the dry, medium-bodied red shows black-fruit led concentration at the midpalate followed by angular black fruit that is at once muted but still angular.
Zweigelt is my official summer red.
Feel free to ride under the radar as well (just don’t tell “too” many friends).
Bottle Note: The typical Austrian red wine. Fine palate displaying pleasant cherry fruit, velvet tannins, fruity and pleasant.
