Fox Run Vineyards, Gewürztraminer 2013, Finger Lakes, New York
Tasting Note: Floral and tropical fruit aromas of mango, lychee, pineapple and melon jump out of your glass you give this Gewürztraminer a swirl.
On your palate the individual aromas merge and express themselves as one singular whole-fruit flavor with a slight lemon citrus twist. Golden colored with powerful, pronounced flavor intensity, this gewürztraminer impresses.
The low to medium acidity in the dry white is in perfect balance with the sugar – neither overwhelms the other.
The gewürztraminer’s peak flavor point culminates midway up your tongue but like so many wines it doesn’t jump off a cliff there – it parasails towards the back of your mouth in a lingering delicious glide that will make you appreciate the wine’s long finish.
If you put this wine in a blind tasting, I’d swear it was a hot-climate, New World gewürztraminer given the ripeness of the fruit and the intensity of the flavor.
I wonder what winemaker Peter Bell’s secret is in producing such a powerful wine in the cool-weather Finger Lakes.
Bottle Note: Fox Run’s perfumed Gewürztraminer offers a distinctive and delectable wine drinking experience. Silken and rich in the mouth, redolent of lychees, roses and tropical fruits, this exotic white wine is particularly adept at caressing all your senses. We like to pour a glass while preparing dinner, especially as the kitchen fills with the aroma of ginger, roasted root vegetables or chicken with lemon. Our dedication to sustainable grape growing on the western slopes of Seneca Lake is the basis for our world-class wine production. Visit our tasting room and take a tour to learn more.
