Glass House Winery, Cabernet Franc 2017, Monticello, Virginia
Tasting Note: An elegant, floral cabernet franc that shows why the varietal is such an ideal Virginia red grape.
Medium-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of black plum, black cherry, strawberry, clove baking spice and blossom.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied cabernet franc has medium-intensity fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by ripe, medium tannin and a hint of cedar on the medium finish.
There is midpalate complexity and a bright, floral character about the wine.
In Virginia, wine makers are encouraged to treat cabernet franc like a pinot noir, and that pervasive philosophy shows in this bottle.
Bottle Note: A luxurious wine, processed to bring out a layered midpalate and a balanced old-world feel overall.
