Gonzalez Byass, Tio Pepe, En Rama Fino Sherry 2018, Andalucia, Spain
Tasting Note: A 5-years-old en rama (bottled directly from the barrel with no filtration) fino sherry that is one of the most flavorful on the fino-sherry scale.
Medium-intensity lemon in color, this wine has a nose of toasted almonds, bread dough and brioche and brininess on the finish.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied fino sherry has yeasty flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium-plus acidity.
The wine is medium-plus in flavor intensity for a fino sherry buttressed by midpalate flavor concentration.
Bottle Note: 2018 marks the ninth limited release of the Tio Pepe Fino En Rama. Each annual bottling is distinguished by a unique label, every one based on artwork uncovered in the Gonzalez Byass archives in Jerez. Tio Pepe Fino En Rama is an unfiltered, unclarified Tio Pepe, bottled during spring when the flor growth is at its thickest. “En Rama” is the term used in the bodega for sherry in its raw, most delicate state, as if drinking directly from the cask itself. Always serve chilled and refrigerate after opening. Bottling Date: 9-4-2018.
