Grandview Vineyard, Cabernet Franc 2016, Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Tasting Note: A cabernet franc that feels familiar — like an old friend.
Grandview Vineyards waits until all of its cabernet franc grapes are fully matured and doesn’t pick green grapes, so their wine has a ripe-fruit character absent the green notes common in old world cabernet franc.
Medium-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of black plum, red cherry, bramble, violet, orange-citrus blossom and cinnamon spice.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied wine delivers medium-intensity flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium-plus acidity and slightly-velvety, medium tannin.
There is midpalate complexity and balance.
The wine is 75%-80% cabernet franc (the legal minimum to label varietally in the U.S. is 75%) with the rest of the wine rounded out with merlot and petit verdot.
Bottle Note: Our cabernet franc has an elegant flair. A vintage we are pleased to share. With black fruit flavors and a hint of spice. This rich red wine is supple and nice.
