Lang & Reed, Cabernet Franc 2012, North Coast, California
Tasting Note: Don’t sleep on California cabernet franc, and this bottle proves why.
Medium-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of blueberry, black plum, violet, black cherry and vanilla and clove baking spice.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus bodied wine has a silky texture with aromas on the nose continuing to the palate as flavors in a restrained fruit style for the New World and for California cabernet franc in general.
There is almost the faint taste of pencil shavings that harkens to Loire Valley Chinon.
The wine shows balance between the fruit and ripe, medium tannin that combines well with medium-plus acidity.
Bottle Note: Lang & Reed Wine Company was founded by John and Tracey Skupny with the intent to explore the distinct charms of cabernet franc from select vineyards in California.
