Logan, Ridge of Tears Shiraz 2018, Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia
Tasting Note: A shiraz with concentration and body and yet is gentle enough to pair with white meats.
Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of raspberry, blackberry, bramble, black plum, white pepper and dried violet blossom.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied shiraz has medium-plus-intensity flavors suggested on the nose supported by slightly-grippy, medium-plus tannin.
A vivid shiraz with balance.
Bottle Note: Mudgee altitude 564m. The face on this label personified my great ancestors. ‘Drum nan deur’ is Scottish Gaelic for ‘Ridge of tears,’ the old Logan clan war cry. It’s an apt name for a wine that has aged this winemaker. Making the best possible Mudgee shiraz is painstaking. Only the best soil at the right altitude and slope, restricting the vines to low yields, plunging the ferment by hand, basket pressing and oak mellowing. And that’s just the parts we can control. But now it’s bottled, the tears are happy ones. Let the aging begin. Peter Logan, winemaker.
