Natte Valley, Coastal Cinsault 2020, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa
Tasting Note: A good entry-level cinsault from South Africa which is known for cinsault.
Medium-intensity ruby in color, this wine has a medium-intensity nose of red plum, rosehip, cranberry, red cherry and blossom.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied cinsault has medium-intensity, red-fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and ripe, medium tannin ultimately completing with a medium finish.
The wine is straightforward, refreshing and would pair with many a white-meat or vegetable dish.
A good midweek cinsault.
Bottle Note: The historical Natte Valleij and its grand old Cape Dutch building have been home to quite a few interesting people & produced its fair share of Cape Wines, including this fine cinsault. The father to our national varietal pinotage and once stalwart red varietal of the industry, cinsault has since fallen into obscurity. When guided by sympathetic hands, cinsault has the ability create superbly drinkable wines festooned with red fruits, spice and surprising structure to age gracefully. This tribute to our winemaking past was handcrafted from forgotten bush vines that has resolutely withstood the tempest of wine globalization and showcases this varietal’s essence. Unfiltered and unfined and handcrafted from start to finish, slight sediments may occur.
