Newton, Unfiltered Chardonnay 2013, Napa Valley, California
Tasting Note: An elegant chardonnay for those who prefer an oaked chard.
Pale-intensity lemon in color, this wine has a nose of green-and-red apple, pear, Sweetheart’s candy and vanilla baking spice.
Oak overwhelms the fruit on the nose.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus bodied chardonnay is medium in acidity and tannin.
The wine is soft in texture and has a creamy mouthfeel.
Bottle Note: Recognized as an American pioneer of unfiltered wines, Newton Vineyard is grounded in a purist approach. The winery sits high on the rugged slopes of Spring Mountain overlooking St. Helena and the Napa Valley where we barrel select distinctive lots and use winemaking practices such as natural fermentation and bottling without filtration. Our wines express the complexity of their terroir and purity of fruit more fully when left unfiltered, resulting in greater depth of flavor, color, structure and ability to age. The Newton Unfiltered Chardonnay is a profound wine with a rich and expansive intensity that can only be captured by this natural approach to the vineyards and winemaking.
