Opus One, 2013, Napa Valley, California
Tasting Note: Perfectly captures the spirit of partnership between the Mondavi and Rothchild families with a nod towards the old world built on new-world, Napa-Valley fruit.
Deep-intensity purple-to-ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic and distinctly-French nose.
The fruit rests in the background and forms one combined black-and-red fruit whole rather than functioning as a collection of its individual parts.
On the palate the dry, red blend is smooth in texture with subtle, velvety tannin that shows nicely on the attack underpinning the fruit character that includes blackberry and red cherry.
The wine has a concentrated texture with medium-plus tannin showing through.
Bottle Note: Produced and bottled by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild.
