Pellegrini Vineyards, Petit Verdot 2006, North Fork of Long Island, New York
Tasting Note: This wine shows petit verdot’s potential as a stand alone varietal rather than a blending grape.
This wine has a red fruit (60%) and black fruit (40%) including red plum and blackberry.
Aromas on the nose continue to the palate with the fruit flavors merging with a chalky medium-plus acidity.
Neither flavor — fruit flavor or acidity — characterizes the lead – they both merge together for a singular effect.
Bottle Note: Pellegrini Vineyards, located in Cutchogue, New York on the eastern tip of Long Island, was originally planted in 1982. The vineyard is planted exclusively with the vinifera varieties chardonnay, merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and petite Verdot. The wine-making technique employs traditional methods in combination with state-of-the-art equipment.
