Raats Family Wines, Dolomite Cabernet Franc 2015, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Tasting Note: An entry-level cabernet franc for Raats Family Wines that is miles above most new world cabernet francs.
Medium-intensity ruby in color, this wine has a nose of black plum, forest floor with some notes of cedar.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus bodied cabernet franc has flavor concentration with mid-palate complexity.
There is velvety medium-plus tannin with the wine delivering flavors suggested on the nose.
Bottle Note: Bruwer Raats fascination for, and dedication to the identification of the perfect vineyard sites has inspired a range of wines named after the soil type on which the best grapes are grown. Individually crafted from unique vineyard parcels, Dolomite wines express great purity of fruit and balanced elegance. Bruwer’s favorite red variety, cabernet franc displays succulent red fruits coupled with a beautifully smoky, mineral quality. Supple, extremely moreish and a great example of this much underrated variety.
