Raats, Original Unwooded Chenin Blanc 2015, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Tasting Note: A bright, unoaked, dry chenin blanc from a noted South-African-wine producer that is a great entry level chenin.
Pale-intensity lemon in color, this wine has a medium-plus-intensity, aromatic nose of pear, quince, melon, pineapple, green apple, chalk and blossom.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied chenin blanc delivers tart-fruit flavors suggested on the supported by medium-plus acidity and completing with a medium-plus, slightly-chalky finish.
The wine is steely in texture with medium flavor intensity and balance between the fruit and acidity.
Bottle Note: “Original” celebrates chenin blanc at its most natural and is crafted without oak to preserve all the original vibrant freshness and flavors of this unique variety. It reflects the lifelong passion our family has for chenin and pairs effortlessly with a variety of foods. We particularly enjoy it with spicy prawn dishes, calamari, sushi and oysters – but why wait for food. – Bruwer Raats.
