Ravines, Dry Riesling 2014, Finger Lakes, New York
Tasting Note: A well-crafted riesling that expresses the depth of flavor the varietal can achieve in the New York Finger Lakes.
This yellow-to-golden-colored riesling shows depth beginning on the nose with layers of juicy fruit including nectarine, tart apple, musty pineapple and pear as well as riesling’s characteristic petrol scent.
Flavors on the nose carry to the palate with high-acidity leading on top of the fruit through to a light chalky citrusy finish that begins mid-palate.
This dry riesling balances acidity and fruit well so that neither overshadows the other. There is depth of flavor reminiscent of indigenous-yeast fermented riesling.
Bottle Note: Ravines Wine Cellars rests on a hillside overlooking glacier-carved Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes wine region of New York State. Our cool growing season, sloped vineyard sites and moderating effects of the deep lakes create ideal conditions for producing vibrant, balanced and food-friendly wines. We are a small, family-owned winery dedicated to the craft of find, classical winemaking, wines that express the unique qualities of the vineyard sites, the growing season, and the wine maker’s vision. Ravines riesling is grown in limestone and shale stone soils on the steep slopes surrounding the Finger Lakes. It is an elegant, dry style with delicate aromatics, distinctive minerality and a bright acidity.
