Red Newt Cellars, Cabernet Franc 2014, Finger Lakes, New York
Tasting Note: A smooth cabernet franc with red-fruit flavors and some delicious earthy notes that are Loire reminiscent.
Medium-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of red plum, raspberry, pencil shavings, forest floor and blossom.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied cabernet franc delivers medium-intensity flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and ripe, medium tannin.
The wine is balanced with some midpalate complexity.
Would pair well with many a meal such as turkey burgers which I’m enjoying this evening.
Bottle Note: Cabernet Franc is quickly becoming a signature red wine variety for the Finger Lakes. Bright aromas of red raspberry and fresh herbs show elegantly in a nose that is complex and ethereal. Cranberry and dark plum flavors on the palate combine with overtones of smoke and spice, producing a wine that is understated and approachable. This fruit forward wine is showing well young and will age beautifully with increasing depth and complexity. Enjoy with seared duck breast in a garlic-cherry relish. Red Newt Cellars Winery & Bistro is committed to producing exceptional vinifera wines and creating innovation regional cuisine that express the personality and sense of place of Finger Lakes vineyards and communities.
