Ridgemill Estate, “The Czar” Saperavi 2016, Granite Belt, Queensland, Australia
Tasting Note: A Saperavi that delightfully engages the entire palate from front to back.
Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of fig, blackberry puree, bramble and raspberry with hints of nectarine stonefruit and violet blossom.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied Saperavi is medium in acidity with grippy, medium-plus tannin.
There is loads of complexity with concentrated fruit coupled with restraint at the same time.
Bottle Note: Deep, dark and black as pitch with very attractive red purple edges. Aromas of intense blueberries, raspberry liquorice and warm exotic spice. The palate is concentrated blue fruits, dark plum, mulberry, chocolate and spice. Intensely structured and well balanced, affording the wine great cellaring potential but also superb drinking with beef short ribs or similar. At Ridgemill we lovingly tend to our vineyards and wines by hand, from picking to bottling. Our wines seldom leave our care until it is time to pass them on to you. Handpicked and basket pressed. The orientation of the 21-acre Granite Belt property faces south on a gentle slope at an elevation of approximately 840 meters above sea level. The vineyard is oriented north to south allowing the sun’s rays to ripen the bunces slowly and evenly resulting in distinctive, rich and flavorsome wines from the cool climate region of the Granite Belt. Winemaker, Peter McGlashan, The Vine Whisperer.
