Roberto Henríquez, Rivera del Notro Tinto País 2018, Bio Bio Valley, Chile
Tasting Note: A país with soul, character and that wild, earthy, velvety-fruit quality that is characteristic of Northern-Rhone syrah.
Medium-intensity ruby in color with some garnet around the edges, this wine has an aromatic, pronounced-intensity nose of raspberry, dried red cherry, dried-and-crushed violet blossom, strawberry, red plum and cranberry essence.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied país has vibrant, medium-plus-intensity, tart, red-fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and medium tannin ultimately completing with a fruity, medium-plus finish.
The wine is layered with flavor with some mushroom and acetone hints.
País like this is one of the reasons I love this underdog grape varietal.
Bottle Note: 200-year-old país vines. Dry farmed, unfined, unfiltered.
