Sharrott Winery, Coia Vineyards Blaufränkisch 2019, Outer Coastal Plain, New Jersey
Tasting Note: A blaufränkisch with heft, body and oomph; this is no push-over blaufränkisch.
Medium-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of red currant, dried violet petal, leather, dried mushroom, red cherry and hibiscus.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied blaufränkisch has medium-plus-intensity flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and grippy, medium-plus tannin ultimately completing with a slightly-savory, medium-plus finish.
There is midpalate complexity and a velvety-texture to this wine that makes it a comfort to curl up with on a chilly, overcast evening as I’m enjoying this evening.
Bottle Note: Known as the pinot noir of the East, our Blaufränkisch is medium bodied with flavors of ripe red cherry. Refreshing enough to be chilled on a warm summer day. Great with grilled meats.
