Signatures of Doolhof, Single Vineyard Collection Cabernet Franc 2015, Wellington, South Africa

Tasting Note: My first cabernet franc from South Africa and perhaps yours too.

Medium-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of black plum, red cherry, bramble and a hint of green pepper evocative of Chinon.

On the palate the dry, medium-plus bodied wine presents ripe red and black fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and medium-plus tannin.

This is a warm-weather cabernet-franc style distinct from that produced in California, Chile or Argentina.

If cabernet franc is the next “new black” of red wines, every wine-producing country will try its hand at creating a unique style to satisfy demand.
