Silver Thread, Riesling 2014, Gridley Bluff Point Vineyard, Finger Lakes, New York
Tasting Note: An enjoyable slightly-ahead-of-the-pack riesling from the New York Finger Lakes.
Lemon in color, slightly petillant riesling has a nose of overripe pear, green apple, lemon zest and some tropical fruit aromas of pineapple, lychee and clove baking spice.
On the palate the riesling is high in acidity on the attack with fruit riding in parallel with acidity rather than under or on top of it.
The light-bodied, medium dry white shows some hints of mid-palate complexity completing with a somewhat round, tart, medium finish.
Bottle Note: Gridley Bluff Point Vineyard is perched high on the bluff overlooking the eastern fork of Keuka Lake. Here, the Gridley family farms a small planting of riesling on deep loam soil at one of the highest elevations in the Finger Lakes. Riesling from this site is characterized by intense fruit flavors including grapefruit and pineapple.
