Suncé Winery & Vineyard, Nebbiolo 2012, St. Olof Vineyard, Clear Lake, California
Tasting Note: You have probably never tasted nebbiolo produced outside of Italy.
This bright and lively nebbiolo from Sonoma highlights some of the best of what you enjoy in an Italian nebbiolo while still being uniquely its own.
Ruby-to-garnet in color this wine has an aromatic nose of black cherry, red plum, apricot and raspberry.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied nebbiolo shows tart red and black fruit on the attack followed by medium-plus acidity that provides a kick through to a medium-plus finish.
A nebbiolo with mid-palate complexity and the tart red fruit you love most about the grape.
Bottle Note: Sunce is a family winery located in the Russian River Valley appellation of Sonoma County – specializing in small artisan lots of vineyard designated varietal wine and classic blends. The Lampia clone reigns supreme in this quintessentially Barolo-style wine. Statistically speaking, this wine can have the perfect balance of tannin, acid and pH. It is said that this beauty can touch places on the palate that haven’t been touched, spreading farther across the tongue and roof of one’s mouth. Pair with delicate fare of veal of Portobello mushrooms with a fine, savory sauces – this will make fine accompaniment to a special meal without overwhelming the food, bringing out the subtle spices of the cuisine, while whetting and cleansing the palate between bites. Aromas of candied cherries and violets leading to deep and long-lasting flavors of black licorice, truffles, cedar and creamy tannins. Only 7 Barrels made.
