Terra Nonno Winery, French Oaked Blaufränkisch 2018, Outer Coastal Plain, New Jersey
Tasting Note: A blaufränkisch that has benefited from oak aging imparting structure and depth that complements the fruit structure beautifully.
Deep-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of black plum, black currant, cassis, blackberry, bing cherry and rosehip with hints of vanilla baking spice.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied blaufränkisch has medium-plus-intensity, black-fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and grippy, medium-plus tannin ultimately completing with a medium-plus, cherry finish.
We often associate blaufränkisch with being young, fruity wine; this wine is that wine’s older, handsome brother.
Bottle Note: Black skinned grape, rich in tannin with a delicate spiciness. Lively on the palate with a long finish. Aged in French oak barrels.
