Troon Vineyard, Tannat 2016, Kubli Bench, Applegate Valley, Oregon
Tasting Note: If syrah and merlot had a baby it would taste like tannat, an original Bordeaux blending grape of old.
Medium-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of, black plum, raspberry, black currant, blackberry and kirsch along with hints of clove baking spice.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied tannat has medium-intensity black fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and velvety, medium-tannin.
There is tart, chalky, red fruit on the midpalate and on the medium finish.
Would pair well with red meat and with a hearty rice bowl as I’m enjoying this evening.
