Vrede en Lust, Artisan Range Cabernet Franc 2015, Elgin, South Africa
Tasting Note: A cabernet franc that straddles the Loire absent the old world vegetal notes.
Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has a nose of red plum, raspberry, pencil shavings and strawberry.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus bodied cabernet franc shows medium flavor concentration and some evidence of midpalate complexity.
There is velvety, medium-plus tannin courtesy of second and third use French oak.
Bottle Note: In 1688 Jacques De Savoye founded Vrede en Lust, meaning “peace and eagerness.” The Buys family started a new era in 1996, and created the unique logo combining the Huguenot cross and the Buys family crest. A barrel selection with core red fruit and an integrated fynbos and savory palate. Fine and fresh tannins with generous length and distinct intensity. Matured in barrel for 16 months. 16 barrels made.
