Willm, Reserve Pinot Gris 2016, Alsace, France
Tasting Note: An Alsacian pinot gris from a dependable producer that typifies the style of the grape from this region of France.
Pale-intensity lemon in color, this wine has a nose of ripe green apple, pear compote and blossom with hints of honeysuckle and quince.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied pinot gris is creamy in texture with ripe-fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and completing with a slightly lemon-citrus-infused finish.
The wine is balanced and has some midpalate concentration that gives the wine added oomph.
Bottle Note: The Willm vineyard, combining Grand Cru Kirchberg de Barr and the well-known Clos Gaensbroennel, was planted in Barr in 1896. Rich with lovely notes of candied-fruit and honey, pinot gris is perfect with fishes in sauce, smoked salmon or duck magret.
