Winzer Krems Sandgrube 13, Blauer Zweigelt 2017, Niederösterreich, Austria
Tasting Note: This is the kind of wine you serve to friends and they thank you for turning them onto an under-the-radar, Austrian varietal that rocks.
Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of black plum, raspberry, kirsch, bramble, violet and red cherry.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied wine delivers concentrated, medium-plus-intensity black fruit flavors suggested on the nose underpinned by medium acidity.
The wine has a velvety texture with a wild-black-fruit quality reminiscent of the Northern Rhone along with slightly-grippy, ripe, medium-plus tannin.
One of my summer favorites.
