Ballandean Estate Wines, Generation 3 2014, Granite Belt, Queensland, Australia
Tasting Note: A full-throttle cabernet-shiraz blend with hair on its chest (neatly manscaped).
Deep-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of blackberry, black plum, black cherry, blossom and bramble.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied red blend has medium-plus-intensity flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and slightly-grippy, medium-plus tannin.
The wine is concentrated in flavor intensity with medium acidity ultimately completing with a long finish.
There is balance between the fruit and tannin structure.
This is only the fifth vintage of this wine made from the estate’s best grapes.
Bottle Note: This property now known as Ballandean Estate, was cleared and planted by Generation 1, Salvatore Cardillo in 1928. Generation 2, Alfio and Josephine Puglisi, planted more vines from 1937. Generation 3, Angelo and Mary Puglisi, evolved the grape and bulk wine production of the previous 2 generations into the premium wine producer that is Ballandean Estate today. This wine was crafted from very old vines from the original vineyard first cleared by Salvatore and has been made as a tribute to Angelo and Mary Puglisi from Generation 4 who work at Ballandean Estate today, and Generation 5 who are our future. Bottle number 1,206. A very limited, 6-barrel blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
