Bodegas Ego, Fuerza 2011, Jumilla, Spain
Tasting Note: Try your favorite red grape varietal blended with monastrell (mourvédre) from Spain, and see if you like the blend even more; you may discover a new favorite red blend.
Medium-intensity ruby in color, this aromatic wine has a nose of ripe blackberry, red cherry, fig compote and raspberry with some light clove spice.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus bodied monastrell (75%) and cabernet sauvignon (25%) blend shows medium-plus flavor intensity that echoing flavors suggested on the nose.
The wine has a well-integrated tannin structure courtesy of the cabernet providing mid-palate complexity.
I for one am continually impressed by these monastrell blends.
