Essay, Chenin Blanc-Viognier-Roussanne Blend 2016, South Africa
Tasting Note: A straightforward, easy-going South African chenin-blanc-based white blend that is good in its dimension and would be good to pair with a weekday meal.
Pale-intensity lemon in color, this wine has an aromatic nose blossom, quince, ripe green apple, lemon citrus, and pear.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied wine delivers flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity.
Bottle Note: Chenin Blanc 72%, Viognier 24%, Roussanne 4%. Essay is a play on words: “SA” is the popular way of saying “South Africa” in SA. It also implies an “assemblage” or blending of ingredients to create a whole greater than its parts. This Essay wine is a unique blend of grapes from vineyards that thrive in our area. Grown on unirrigated vines on shale soils, the grapes from our area produce distinctively fruity wines with freshness and minerality. Style: Fresh and fruity. Flavor: White peach, citrus, and green apples. Food: Mussels, creamy pasta or spicy foods.
