Fox Run Vineyards, Reserve Cabernet Franc 2012, Seneca Lake, New York
Tasting Note: If you poured this wine in a glass and asked me to guess the varietal by site alone, I would not guess this is cab franc because it’s so deeply colored.
Fox Run’s deep, ruby-colored cabernet franc presents as a substantial expression of the grape. On the nose you get red plum and wild blackberry which carry forward to the palate.
This dry, medium bodied cab franc is smooth but weighty.
Medium acidity hides behind the fruit so that the fruit is always in the forefront of the taste with acidity only emerging at the finish and showing balance throughout the length of the taste.
The more I sample cabernet franc from the Finger Lakes the more I like it. Peter Bell, Fox Run’s winemaker, has created a cabernet franc expression that is worthy of tasting and following.
Bottle Note: This delightfully fragrant Cabernet Franc exudes scents of violets, raspberries, chocolate and nutmeg. Lavish yet restrained, this wine will tantalize your inner hedonist while charming your refined, sophisticated side. Try serving this dry red with pan-roasted chicken, salmon or aged cheeses with fresh figs. Our dedication to sustainable grape growing on the western slopes of Seneca Lake is the basis for our world-class wine production. Visit our tasting room and take a tour to learn more.
