Lagarde, Henry Gran Guarda No. 1 2011, Mendoza, Argentina
Tasting Note: A lovely, grown-up blend that behaves like a 30-year old on the cusp of greatness.
A blend of malbec and cabernet sauvignon, this ruby-colored wine has a nose of black fruit including blackberry and subtle baking spice, perhaps clove.
On the palate black fruit reigns supreme with baking spice taking the number three pole position preceded immediately by high tannin which sits between the fruit and baking spice.
This wine can age for at least three more years without losing its character.
