Lucien Albrecht, Crémant D’Alsace Brut, Alsace, France
Tasting Note: After Champagne, Crémant D’Alsace is the second most popular sparkling wine consumed by the French, so if you want to drink like the French on a non-Champagne budget, this is the place to do a lot of exploration, and this is a good first bottle with which to start.
Pale-intensity lemon in color with small tight bubbles, this wine has a nose of quince, green apple, brioche, fresh green grape, blossom and lemon citrus.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied crémant has bright, medium-intensity flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium-plus acidity completing with a slightly-lemon-infused, medium finish.
The wine is balanced, refreshing and would function well as an aperitif especially for those who might like a hint or suggestion of sweetness on the finish.
Sparkling wines from Alsace are typically the house sparkling wine I keep at home in the refrigerator when I come home and want to enjoy a sparkling wine.
You can’t beat the quality for price point; just don’t tell everyone you know so this under-the-radar secret doesn’t get out and affect my supply 🙂 .
Bottle Note: Albrecht Crémant is made by the strictest methode traditionnelle, and we consider it one of the great specialties of our house. Our blanc de blancs is distinguished by a fine and elegant bead, a beautiful straw color, a light, delicate palate. Ideal when served as an aperitif, it also matches fruit-based desserts. It is delicious at any time of the day.
