Quintay, Clava Reserva Carmenere 2012, Rapel Valley, Chile
Tasting Note: Carmenere from Chile can be just as silky and elegant as cabernet sauvignon from the region, and this wine proves it.
Deep-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of blackberry, black plum, black currant, green-pepper leaf and subtle notes of clove baking spice.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied carmenere reveals ripe, red fruit that is underpinned by ripe, well-integrated, medium-plus tannin and black pepper on the finish.
There is midpalate complexity and balance between the fruit and tannin structure.
See 2015 review.
Tasting Note: Intense ruby in color, this carmenere has notes of plums, wild flowers, black pepper, menthol and mulberries. Fresh, youthful with soft sweet tannins although intense with great structure and persistency on the palate. With the well structured tannins, together with the balanced fruit, it has a great potential for cellaring, and this seductive carmenere is an elegant example of this variety.
