Schäfer-Fröhlich, Vulkangestein Trocken Riesling 2016, Nahe, Germany
Tasting Note: A gentle riesling that would make a perfect aperitif to cleanse your palate before dinner.
Pale-intensity lemon in color with small, pétillant bubbles, this wine has a medium-intensity nose of pear, green apple, petrol and lemon-citrus peel with a hint of pineapple.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied riesling has medium-intensity flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium-plus acidity and completing with a medium finish.
The wine is mostly straightforward with a bright, lively quality.
Bottle Note: Winemaking tradition at Schäfer – Fröhlich goes back over 200 years but took a serious upswing when Karin Schäfer married Hans Fröhlich in 1971. In 1995 son Tim joined the estate and in little time this close knit winemaking family has emerged as a top producer of Nahe rieslings, especially with wines from their extensive holdings in the Great Bockenauer Felseneck.
