Schild Estate, Grenache Mourvedre Shiraz 2014, Barossa Valley, Australia

Tasting Note: A grenache, syrah, mourvedre (GSM) blend that shows the concentrated, black-fruit side of the grape with some complimentary floral elements.

Medium-intensity ruby-garnet in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-intensity nose of black cherry, black plum, chocolate, raspberry blossom and kirsch with hints of sage.

On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied GSM blend expresses black-fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and slightly-velvety, medium-plus tannin.

The wine is balanced despite its 14.5% alcohol level which you can feel ever so-slightly on the medium finish.

Bottle Note: Three generations of the Schild family share a passion for growing the best quality fruit. Originally, Ed established the label to give his children, and those to come, an opportunity to work in the vigneron business. Today, all generations are known for their hard work and warm handshakes. A marriage of three classic Barossa red varieties, each with its own strong varietal signature, ensure this wine has both complexity and interest. Old Bush Vine Grenache dominate with ripe red fruits and spice, the Mourvedre gives bright, peppery blue fruits and the shiraz brings it all together with a core of juicy ripe tannins. Three timeless varieties working together to make one great wine.
