Standing Stone Vineyards, Riesling 2014, Finger Lakes, New York
Tasting Note: Golden in color, this off-dry Riesling has the nose of a basket of fresh-picked green apples and just-ripened peaches kissed by lazy summer afternoon sun.
These aromas are followed by the gentle essences of baking spices dipped in chalk (this is a good thing- trust me). This riesling plays across your entire palate specifically starting with a path that travels down the center of your tongue. On the attack on the tip of your tongue you feel the impending body of the taste filled with the aromas carried forward on the nose.
Next, you feel the wine travel to the middle of your tongue as it cascades out to the edges as if opening its wings for the first time.
Finally, the back of your tongue receives its just reward and you get lift off as flavors of rose bouquet and pear blossom take lift in an overall experience that is refreshing and simultaneously unexpected.
The Finger Lakes begins to reveal its secrets in this wine. I for one am eagerly listening.
Bottle Note: 10 Millennia ago, glaciers carved the Finger Lakes, creating soil ideally suited to growing grapes. Our site, on the east shore of Seneca Lake, captures the ideal elements of wind, water, soil and stone.
We craft wines that are brilliant in their personality, with luscious flavors, aromas and textures. We dedicate our passion to wines with a solid foundation in the soil and the stone, expressed with elegant flavors in your class. We’re delighted to share our passion of wine making with you and your loved ones! Marti & Tom Macinski
