Stefan Bauer Zweigelt 2016 – A Grape that Offers Flavor Concentration & Fruitiness

Tasting Note: Zweigelt is an Austrian grape which offers the flavor concentration and fruitiness one enjoys in a red wine but with a gamay-like playfulness.

Often in summer I look to gamay and Zweigelt as my summer, chilled red wines of choice.

Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of raspberry puree, black plum, black currant, blossom and strawberry.

On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied Zweigelt delivers medium-plus-intensity black-fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium-acidity and slightly-grippy, ripe, medium tannin.

There is midpalate complexity and flavor concentration across the entire length of the taste as well as balance between the fruit and tannin structure.

Serve chilled to bring out the best qualities of this beautiful wine.
