Sunce Winery & Vineyard, Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre GSM 2012, Capay Valley, Herren Vineyard, California
Tasting Note: A silky GSM (Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre) blend with body and plushness.
Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of black plum, raspberry, bramble, red cherry, blossom and blackberry puree.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied GSM blend delivers soft, medium-plus-intensity flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and ripe, medium tannin.
There is midpalate complexity and concentration with lots of ripe fruit to bear.
A GSM blend with bite.
Bottle Note: Sunce is a family winery located in the Russian River Valley appellation of Sonoma County – specializing in small artisan lots of vineyard designated varietal wines and classic blends. This vineyard was planted with almost equal parts grenache, syrah and mourvedre. A lushly complex wine boasting mysteriously dark fruit characteristics seeped in complex layers of earth, leather and figs. The mid-palate is richly textured with black pepper and plums, finishing long, with a weighty plushness. The aromatics are feisty with lots of fresh country-side notes, and a tinge of gurgly, black, strike-it-rich oil. Pair with lentils with wild rice and shitake mushrooms, beef short ribs, pork shoulder, barbeque chicken and pork sausage. Only 11 barrels made.
