Sunce Winery & Vineyard, Syrah 2018, Sonoma Carneros, Layland Vineyard, California

Tasting Note: A fulsome syrah that is a menagerie of ripe, red-and-black-fruit in your glass.

Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of raspberry puree, red currant, rhubarb, cassis, dried cranberry, blueberry, fig, boysenberry and violet.

On the palate the dry, full-bodied syrah has medium-plus-intensity flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and ripe, medium-plus tannin ultimately completing with a long finish.

The midpalate is rich and pregnant with fruit.

A syrah for grilled meat and heavier dishes.

Bottle Note: Sunce is a family winery located in the Russian River Valley appellation of Sonoma County – specializing in small artisan lots of vineyard designated varietal wines and classic blends. Sonoma Carneros is a great appellation for this varietal as demonstrated with this hand-crafted wine. These beautiful bluish berries were cold soaked, macerated extendedly, while employing the signee method of bleeding off barely pressed fruit for better extraction. This syrah was aged in 40% new French oak for 15 months. A classic cooler climate Rhône-style syrah, this dark pleaser exhibits black mission fig fruit characteristics and a hint of blueberry laced with pepper, finishing long with velvety tannins. Pair with lamb kebabs, rich beef stew, casserole, sweet potatoes, butternut squash and/or love. Only 6 barrels made.
