Tomasello Winery, Palmaris Reserve Chardonnay 2019, Outer Coastal Plain, New Jersey
Tasting Note: A chardonnay with almond and candied notes running through it.
Pale-intensity lemon in color, this wine has a medium-intensity nose of green apple, green pear and blossom.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied chardonnay has medium-plus-intensity flavors suggested on the nose along with candied-pear fruit supported by medium acidity and completing with a medium finish.
Bottle Note: 4 generations of Tomasello winemaking. In 1933, days after the repeal of prohibition, Frank Tomasello started Tomasello Winery with the revolutionary vison of creating wine to match Europe’s best. His two sons, their two sons, and then their two sons have continued the tradition. The Tomasello family grows and harvests 68 acres of traditional vinifera wines and native grapes in South Jersey’s designated Outer Coastal Plain AVA. Our 2019 Outer Coastal Plain chardonnay is presented under the name, “Palmaris” Latin for “Prize-Worthy” a name we reserve for wines of substantial characters and distinction made only in superior vintages. 2019 was a fine growing season with seasonable temperatures and rainfall. This wine is made from 100% estate grown Dijon Clone Chardonnay from the Winery’s Flittertown Road Vineyard. Harvest parameters: 20.3 brix, t/a 6.1 g/l as tartaric. Harvest date: September 21, 2019. The must was pressed, chilled and then subsequently fermented with a yeast isolated from the Suze-la-Rousse in the Cote du Rhone in France. This strain is particularly suited to produce full bodied Chardonnays. Malo-lactic fermentation was simultaneously initiated and 47% of the wine was transferred to the new Allier oak for 4 months then married back to the remaining 54% which was finished in stainless steel. We hope that you will enjoy this fine wine with an equally fine meal while in company of good friends. All the best from the Tomasello Family. 4 generations of dedicated Outer Coastal Plain winemaking.
