Tyrrell’s, Winemaker’s Selection, Vat 1 Semillon 1998, Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia
Tasting Note: An aged semillon that is still a youthful stallion at 21 years of age with a defiant streak of flavor development and bracing acidity.
Deep-intensity lemon-green to medium-intensity gold in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of lightly-toasted toast, caramel, brioche, oak barrel, walnut and lemon-citrus zest.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied semillon has pronounced, green-fruit flavors suggested on the nose along with a lemon-citrus-infused midpalate and high, bracing acidity tempered by a light dusting of chalk.
Acid lovers will rejoice.
